it is the Universe that is doing Zazen

On this foto you can see Yokoyama-Roshi in Zazen meditation – in the most sublime appearance

human body can take - with the scroll hanging in the background saying :

「坐相降臨」: “Zazen is in union with The Universe. The resting (sitting 坐相) is The Universe 

itself. I becomes The Universe which descends in the sitting, arriving (降臨) as if coming from the 

sky by the snowy mountain. 坐相降臨 is the arrival in sitting (resting). We think we are doing Zazen 

(sitting/resting), but in reality it is the Universe that is doing Zazen (sitting/resting).”

"How can the arrow shoot itself and find its target without a shooter?

First we must see that we cannot will ourselves to be open because openness is our very nature.

Os alunos chegam até mim
por caminhos tão diversos.
A prática  é  um momento delicado,
a beleza de sentir o centro imóvel
vive sem palavras.
Às vezes a cascata de silêncio
tem lugar na sala de prática.
É tão natural e harmonioso.

Às vezes os alunos partem
para os seus países,
as suas vidas noutro lugar.
E talvez aquele movimento de descer as mãos lentamente
tenha sido o último na presença de alguém.
Há um vazio e uma alegria simultânea,
termos partilhado a qualidade de tantos instantes.
Crescendo nos laços e nas seis direções.
